WHAT DOES A CALORIE DEFICIT AND YOUR BANK ACCOUNT HAVE IN COMMON?

Calorie deficit seems to be the buzzword in the fitness industry right now, yet there's still a lot of confusion surrounding it regarding your fat loss goals. Maybe these are some questions you have posed to yourself in the past:

  •  "What is it?"

  •  "How do I get into one?"

  •  "And most importantly, how do I lose some weight (body fat)?"

I get it, and it can be pretty frustrating, especially when you know that a calorie deficit is the main principle involved in your weight loss goal.

Let's make this simple. Everyone has got a bank balance, and hopefully, you know what happens inside there (INS & OUTS). The bank balance is going to represent BODY FAT!

So you have got your INCOME, which may come from multiple streams such as cash, bank transfers and so on. Therefore income will represent "ENERGY IN", including the calories that come from food and liquids.

On the other side, you have OUTGOINGS from your bank account, such as bills and spending on hobbies. This will represent "ENERGY OUT", which will include the calories burned by general living, fidgeting, exercise and so on.

 

Energy IN and OUT can go up and down depending on your bank balance activity, meaning it is a continuous process that will occur for the rest of your life!

Therefore if your goal is to lose body fat, you need to ensure that you are in a calorie deficit (Westerterp, 2010). For example, the money going OUT of your bank balance needs to be greater than the money coming IN, which will result in a negative cash balance (energy deficit).

When this happens, your bank balance will go down, which means BODY FAT. If you have been waiting for the perfect time to start this process, trust me, it doesn’t exist, so just do yourself and start.
